The client was already using the Matthews 8400 inkjet system with a single 32v print head coding on just one side of the insulation board.  They wanted a system that would enable them to mark on both sides of their thermal board.  They also required an integrated system which would fit into their manufacturing process for easier message selection when the insulation boards varied in thickness.

Xact’s technical site survey concluded that an upgrade to Xact’s MPERIA™ VIAjet™ V-Series ink jet printer using two 32v print heads and the MPERIA™ management system would allow the client to link directly making message selection simple.  

Following the success of the first system, a second system will be installed on another line in the coming months.

A leading manufacturer of high quality paper needed a coding and marking solution to apply product names, batch code and bar codes at high speed.

Xact supplied and installed the MPERIA™ 12” touchscreen controller with 3 x VIAjet™ L-Series L12 print heads.  Competitor systems were unable to offer the desired print resolution at normal production speeds of 100m/min. However the speed requirement was well within the capabilities of the MPERIA™ VIAjet™ L-Series printer.

With this system the client has the facility to have one controller operating multiple print heads with the flexibility to simply add further heads in the future for other marking applications thereby future proofing the system.  This is one big advantage of the MPERIA™ system, the ability to so easily extend and expand in the future.  The MPERIA™ system installed by Xact has the network capabilities to integrate with the clients internal order and manufacturing systems which is included as a standard feature.

Coding Solution In Harsh Environment

Leading insulation provider, Xtratherm approached Xact with their coding & marking challenge.  Xtratherm, who supply the construction industry with a range of insulation products, needed a solution for their foil backed insulation panels.  They needed to apply ‘precise’ location marks on their insulation panels necessary for the installation process.

Working with the Xtratherm team and building on our experience and success within the insulation industry,  Xact were able to offer a solution that delivered unrivalled flexibility using the power of the Mperia system to operate all 9 heads from a single controller.  The Mperia ViaJet V-Series system incorporating 9 print heads from the one Mperia 12” controller suited Xtratherm’s needs and effectively solved the problem, along with the flexibility to include additional heads at a later date for the application of product information and logos on this and other production lines. 

This flexibility reduced the amount of hardware at the line, in turn lowering investment costs on the initial purchase as well as expanding the system to meet other product marking applications at the plant.  Their investment was secure.   The ink consumption and general operating costs were also massively reduced in comparison to other systems.  Due to the success of the system Xtratherm has already rolled the system out to other plants in Europe.
