Further Expansion For Giro!

Giró  has opened a new plant in Teruel, Spain aimed at increasing its production capacity.  This is Giro’s 7th factory (the group has five factories in Spain, one in France and one in the United States) and for Xact this expansion means faster lead times and increased availability of its key products.

With a floor area of nearly 7000 sqm with future expansion options, the new Giró production plant will enhance it’s current capacity reinforcing Giro’s world leadership in production of tubular mesh and printed film for fruit and vegetable packaging.

This modern facility where plastic extrusion and production of knitted tubular mesh is made also has 1,400 sqm of storage capacity.

Lead time is a top priority!  The growth in global demand, along with the strategic decision to offer the best lead times, Giro can now further increase production capacity and stocks of higher rotation products.  The new production plant and the new logistics centre will allow an increase in stock coverage, minimise risks and incidents and improve the availability of
key products.

New! High Speed Tray Filling Machine!

Automate the last stage of your packing process with the ‘GBF 100’.

Xact, in partnership with world leaders Giro, are excited to introduce a new product to our portfolio of packaging machinery, the GBF 100, a net bag tray filler.

The tray filling machine automatically fills trays at the end of your packing line at high speeds (up to 100 bags per minute) therefore saving labour costs. It is designed to fill trays with net bags from 500g to 4kg and the operator can choose to fill in one or two layers.

The GBF 100 can handle all types of cardboard cases or plastic trays with dimensions of 600 x 400mm and heights of between 180mm and 240mm. Depending on the filling requirements (number of bags, weight and layers) the GBF 100 obtains different outputs that can be seen in table 1 (below). The productivity increases when a double feeding conveyor is used, by channelling the bags through two independent collectors.

GBF 100 Table 1

During the filling and exit of the tray, the machine vibrates to make sure the bags are well packed in and prevents any bags from sticking out of the top of the tray.

There are various accessories that can be added to the GFB 100 to increase its efficiency:

Weight control and rejection system
The device can be installed at the exit of the tray filler and automatically weighs all the trays. The operator can define a range of weight admitted (minimum and maximum). All trays that are out of this range will be rejected by an element that moves the wrong tray to a ramp with rollers for disposal. If the box meets the established weight requirement, the tray can be moved to the palletiser.

Tray feeder of 6 or 9 unit pile
Another essential accessory for the GBF 100 is the automatic box infeed system. This device piles the empty trays that automatically will be dispensed to the tray filler machine. Two models of tray feeder are available , the 6 layer (pile of 6 or 8 trays or 240mm or 180mm) and the 9 layers (pile of 9 trays or 12 trays of 240mm or 180mm). The tray feeder supports both cardboard or plastic trays.

MPERIA system eliminates costly software changes

A leading manufacturer of cold rolled steel sections and insulation panels were looking for a robust and reliable coding system as part of an integrated solution on their production line.

Due to reliability issues with one of our competitors systems, the customer wished to replace their current printer with our MPERIA™ V-Series system as this was now a standard for the group.

On this application, the information applied to the product is downloaded to the printer from the mill. The customer had been quoted thousands for the line builder to re-write the software on the mill to provide compatibility with a new printing system.

Xact were able to eliminate this cost by loading a plug-in on the MPERIA™ controller which emulates the current download from the production line and converts the string which is compatible with MPERIA™. This flexibility not only eliminated the high cost to modify the software on the line but also downtime on implementation, and also meant no additional hardware was required.   As a result, the customer is scheduled to purchase more MPERIA™ V-series printers (with plug-in) to replace other networked systems across the group that, pre-MPERIA™, had proved too costly to replace. In addition, their visibility to the un-rivalled flexibility the MPERIA™ system can offer their business has initiated a complete review of how they control and manage their product marking processes across the group.

A Clean Winner! MPERIA L Series

A cleaning chemical manufacturer chooses MPERIA™ L-Series against CIJ technology.

Our competitors were offering CIJ (continuous ink jet) printing technology, which historically would have been the standard solution for this application.  CIJ was also an option available within the range from Xact.

Xact proposed the latest MPERIA™ VIAJet L Series TIJ printer which, in comparison to CIJ technology, not only provided a higher print quality but also significantly reduced initial investment costs as well as operating costs moving forward.  Following the successful implementation of the first system a further three systems have been purchased with another two systems due to be ordered in May 2016.  Xact are now also reviewing the customers outer-case coding and labelling requirements which will also be operated by MPERIA™.

Leading Dairy uses Xact for product coding

A new world class state-of-the-art dairy plant needed a coding solution for their dairy and powdered milk products, including infant milk.  The dairy needed a system that would code production dates, BBE dates and batch and time codes.

They were looking for a flexible and high speed solution capable of dealing with the high demands in a dairy environment such as washdown, cleanliness, condensation and temperature variations.

The I-Mark SX32e V-Series printer from Xact provides a powerful and flexible solution for standard dot matrix and high resolution inkjet printing.  The system is well suited to challenging environments where varying temperatures, vibration and dust can affect the performance of other technologies.

The facility to operate two print heads from a single I-Mark SX32e controller proved to be a cost effective solution for the plant where product information is applied to opposite sides of the bag. The printer currently operates as a ‘stand-alone’ system but will form part of a new network solution early in 2016. Due to the success of the first printer, a second system is in the process of being installed, along with a proposal to incorporate our latest MPERIA operating system sometime in the near future.

Xact, with long-term manufacturing partners, Matthews Marking Systems, supply a complete range of non-contact marking technologies to suit all applications.
