Xact – Building Relationships Within The Construction Industry

A UK wholesaler of quarry products (sand and gravel) approached Xact looking for a system to ID code their plastic bags containing aggregate.

The customer stipulated it was essential the proposed system could provide a large high quality print format (to aid visibility of the codes when bags are palletised) as well as meeting the tough operating environments of the plant (dust, vibration and variable operating temperatures).

Our competitors were offering CIJ (continuous ink jet) printing technology which was indeed an option within the Xact range.  However, Xact proposed the latest V-series printing system which, in comparison to CIJ technology not only increases the legibility of the codes but also significantly reduced initial investment and operating costs moving forward.

The V-series is also the most robust industrial printing technology on the market so the tough operating conditions of the plant were no issue to long-term performance and reliability

‘Plane’ and simple! MPERIA™ is the preferred choice for the Timber Industry

A UK sawmill, manufacturing a wide range of sawn timber products including carcassing, fencing, pallet wood and heavy sections, approached Xact for a product coding solution to be applied to lengths of timber.

The client wished to replace their current printing system as it was proving unreliable and the print quality was not up to scratch.  The client needed product ID codes including specification details plus company and CE logos to be applied to lengths of timber immediately after the planing process at high speeds (in excess of 200m/min).

Following an initial on-site trial from Xact, we implemented the MPERIA™ V-Series system with twin 32v 8000+ print heads.  Twin heads (operated by a single MPERIA™ controller) provide the facility to code split lengths and manage double prints to 4.8m lengths to accommodate cuts in the timber post printing.

Not only has this significantly improved print quality but it has also reduced operating costs, as well as offering the flexibility to manage other marking processes at the plant which are planned later in the year.

The 8000+ head is the most robust on the market and offers superior print distance when compared with other systems, so despite the harsh operating environments and inconsistent presentation of the product, long-term reliability and consistency of the mark is guaranteed.

As well as the MPERIA™ V-Series system, the plant is also interested in our L and T Series print heads which offer higher resolution print formats should these be required on other marking processes in the future which would all be controlled by the same MPERIA™ operating system. This scalable design and ease in which MPERIA™ can expand as and when required helps to future-proof the system, ensuring a secure investment.

A Clean Winner! – MPERIA™ L Series printer… The Perfect Solution For Coding Primary And Secondary Packaging

UK based cleaning chemical manufacturer benefits from enhanced code quality and reduced costs with Xact coding solutions.

The major manufacturer, with over 400 customers across the UK and Europe needed an industrial marking system for printing batch numbers to the neck and body of plastic bottles and containers. Their product range consists of floor care, washroom, toilet and hand care cleaner.

Our competitors were offering CIJ (continuous ink jet) printing technology (which was also an option available within the range from Xact). CIJ historically would be the standard solution for this application, however Xact proposed the latest MPERIA™ VIAJet L Series TIJ printer which, in comparison to CIJ technology not only provides a higher print quality but also significantly reduces initial investment costs as well as operating costs moving forward.

Due to the success of the first system Xact installed, a further 4 systems have been purchased to meet the coding requirements of their primary packaging on their remaining production lines.

In addition to this, the flexibility to operate multiple heads from the MPERIA™ controller means the customer is now planning to implement additional L Series heads to meet their end-of-line outer case coding requirements.

Xact launch the VIAjet L1: Compact Thermal Ink Jet Printhead

Xact launch the Matthews VIAjet L1 compact printhead; designed for applications where space is restricted or high speeds are required, the L1 is ideal for primary coding, web applications, and OEM machinery integration.

A single VIAjet L1 prints a high-resolution, 0.5 in. mark, and multiple L1s can be stitched together for larger messages and produce marks up to four times as fast as competitors.

The VIAjet L1 connects to an L-Link module, a low profile and fully networkable control board that is separate from the printhead. The L-Link enables communication between MPERIA™, Matthews’ universal print controller, and L1 printheads. The L-Link connects up to four L1 printheads, each by a single cable, and mounts up to 6.5 feet (2 m) from the printheads.

The print controller manages messages and settings for multiple printers across one or several production lines or packaging locations. MPERIA™ seamlessly integrates with ERP/MRP/WMS systems and processes large databases of dynamic data, which simplifies marking and coding information throughout primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging lines.

A key player in the cold rolled steel sections and profiles industry were looking for a new printing system for marking their range of steel products. The system they were looking for needed to apply product traceability codes consisting of date, time and shift codes, product specifications, as well as company and industry logos.
