Xact Printing Systems…..Continuing to Cement Relations Within The Construction Sector

A leading manufacturer supplying a range of products to the building industry contacted Xact needing a coding solution for its fibre cement roof slates.  The company, with its own fibre cement processing and metal forming operation, required large high-quality print formats (to aid visibility of the codes when the slates are cured).  The harsh operating environments and the requirement to print from underneath the product added to the complexity of the printing needs.

Xact proposed the MPERIA™ V-Series system operating four print heads.  The multi-lane printing solution is capable of applying product specification and traceability codes to the underside of the roof slates.

Key to choosing Xact was the flexibility our MPERIA™ system offered the business, such as the ability to operate multiple print heads from a single controller and ink delivery system.

Other factors influencing their decision-making process were;

  • Our competitors were offering CIJ (continuous ink jet) printing technology. This was also an option available within our own range but not recommended for this application or environment. Instead, we proposed our MPERIA™ V-series printing system which, in comparison to CIJ technology, not only increased the legibility of the codes but also significantly reduced initial investment and operating costs moving forward.
  • The customer stipulated it was essential the proposed system could provide large high-quality print formats (to aid visibility of the codes when the slates are cured) as well as meeting the tough operating environments of the plant (dust, vibration and variable operating temperatures). Our V-series heads offer both small and large character print formats and are proven to be the most industrial printing technology on the market. Therefore, the tough operating conditions and the requirement to print from underneath the line were no issue to long-term performance or reliability
  • Our years of expertise within the industrial sector, in-particular our knowledge of coding & marking construction products, provided added confidence to move forward with Xact. In addition, our systems are also the preferred choice within the customers Metal Framing and Cladding divisions.

A market leading manufacturer of sustainable timber construction panels needed a coding solution for marking various types of engineered wood at three different areas within the plant.  This included coated OSB boards, uncoated OSB boards and unitised stacks of OSB boards

The marking processes required small and large character printing capabilities for the application of variable product information, specifications and traceability codes, as well as industry and company logos & graphics.

Award Winning Farm Shop Increases Sales With Xact Net Packing Machine

Blackerhall Farm is an award winning farm shop producing and selling locally produced fruit, vegetables and meat.  Covering five generations, the family business, now owned by the Garthwaite family, were awarded UK Farm Retailer of The Year in 2014.  Established in 1999, the farm has a farm shop with butchery, bakery, delicatessen, wine loft, gift houses and café.  More than 80% of everything they sell in the shop is produced by themselves.

The locally grown produce on the farm is available to buy from the greengrocers in their Farm Shop.  The produce includes broccoli, purple sprouting broccoli, sweetheart and savoy cabbage, kale and swede.

As part of the high quality shop merchandising, the owners were looking for a professional way to display and sell their produce.

“Our FT14 manual netting machine enables us to do what the big supermarkets do!  The end product has a practical and professional look and feel to it and the machine is so easy to use.” Edward Garthwaite, Managing Director, Blackerhall Farm

The machine needed to be able to produce a certain number of packs a day, switching between sprouts, potatoes or other products depending on what needed to be packaged at the time.  As well as having a certain budget for the packaging machine, the end produce needed to look professional as well as being practical.

After visiting the site, Xact Prepack Sales Manager, Paul Bennion decided that an FT14 manual netting machine would fit the bill.

The FT14 manual  machine cutsseals and prepares for the next net pack in one easy operation.  The end product is a high quality presentation at an affordable price.  It is ideal for all types of fruit and veg.

OUTCOME

Sales of the produce packaged using the FT14 at Blackerhall Farm have increased.  This is due to being able to display produce more effectively and therefore sell more.  The management are really impressed with the machine, the results it gives, its ease of use and reliability.
